News From Anglican Church of ST. John Baptist Pinetown

Vision and mission:

A friend of mine once defined a vision as “a justification for existence”, having a reason to wake up and
continue with life. Proverbs 29 vs. 18: “Where there is no vision, the people perish , but he that keepeth
the law, happy is” (KJV). The NIV bible records it as “Where there is no revelation, people cast off restraint,
but blessed is the one who heeds wisdom’s instruction”. The prophet Habakkuk (2 verse 2) writes “Then the
Lord replied, ‘Write down the revelation (vision in KJV) and make it plain on tablets so that a herald may run with it” (NIV).

The Lantern - April 2015

From the Rector:

Dear People of God
This is the first edition of our ‘new-look’ Lantern.

Vestry:

Vestry (Annual General Meeting) has come and gone. It is a requirement in the Canons of our
church that all vestries must done by the 15th of March of every year. I feel quite elated that we
were able to do this, with audited financial statements, on the 8th of February 2015. I am most
grateful to all those who worked hard to make sure this happens in compiling reports and
submitting them timeously to Barbara McAlpin. Special mention must however go to the Treasurer
and Parish Secretary for working flat out and responding to all that was required by the auditors and the
Diocesan Secretary.
